The map system in Sons of the Forest has been improved from its predecessor, however those who are just beginning their adventures may find it difficult to locate and label areas. The map and compass in the first game were definitely outclassed by GPS Locator, but with the advancement of technology, remembering locations and marking them has become much more challenging. This time, players will receive a handy GPS locator that they can use whenever they want and that shows their whereabouts in real time without requiring them to use a compass. In the game, players can craft an adequate number of Sons of the Forest items.
After the opening cutscene, players will be able to use the GPS Locator from the start by opening the inventory and emptying the contents of the Emergency Kit. Once they have a GPS locator, they can press the M key on their keyboard to take out the handheld. Unfortunately, marking items and areas of interest is not as simple as it used to be, and players will need to acquire another item if they want to place any custom markers on their map. Here's how to use the GPS locator effectively in the forest children.
What is the function of GPS locator?
Players can be overwhelmed the first time a GPS locator is shown on screen. That's because there are a series of preloaded icons scattered across the map itself and act as points of interest players must follow to find new items and tools. Players will encounter three types of icons:
White Cave Icons - These icons mark the cave entrances found around the area.
Green Circles - These icons are important points of interest and can include cave entrances for useful items as well as dig points that unlock additional entrances into bunkers and other tools.
Purple Icons - These icons mark the location of useful items and GPS trackers that can be used with a GPS locator.
Unfortunately, players cannot mark specific areas that have been marked (without using a special GPS tracker). So they just have to remember certain points of interest for themselves, because they might need to go back there later when looking for new tools.
By default, players can also zoom in and out of the GPS locator's map by clicking the center mouse wheel.
How to Find and Use a GPS Tracker
If players want to place their own unique markers, they need to first acquire a special item called a GPS Tracker. Thankfully, GPS locators will highlight these items on the map with bright purple icons. To obtain the tracker, the player simply has to go to the area and find the item itself (small objects can be picked up, usually indicated by a GPS locator-shaped icon when seen in first person.
These items also make a subtle beeping sound that gets louder and faster as the player gets closer to it. Using a combination of visual maps and following beeps, players can find these markers.
Once the player has the marker, they need to place it somewhere so that it interacts with the GPS locator map. To do this, players need to go to whatever area they want to mark and place a stick on the ground. They can then access the GPS tracker by opening the inventory (located in the top left box). By staring at the top of the stick and clicking the left mouse button once it is in the player's hand, they can place it on the stick. By right-clicking, they can also cycle through a selection of pre-made icons to modify the icon types. Once put, the new icon will be visible to players on the map. They only need to break or pick up the stick in order to recover the GPS tracker and reuse it. Visit gameguidevip.com for more game guides.
