Druckmann begins his essay by saying he felt "painful" when he first tried to dive into Miyazaki's work. But then Neil details to the audience how players must somehow learn to play Miyazaki's games. The adventurer must take the time to approach the scene with a more deliberate purpose. With this in mind, it "suddenly clicks".
Druckmann considers Miyazaki "a great ambassador for video games" and praises the specific ways in which his games evoke an emotional response. Druckmann, who is one of the executive producers on HBO's hit adaptation of "The Last of Us," also noted that Miyazaki's games elevate "feelings that passive media like television can never recreate." He particularly praises Miyazaki and his team at FromSoftware for their ability to create rewarding experiences, and their decision to rarely hold the player's hand for too long.
The era's recognition of Hayao Miyazaki is by no means his first eminent honor. In 2018, Hayao Miyazaki won the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Golden Joystick Award. In 2022, he received a special award for his work as a game developer at the CEDEC Awards in Japan.
